When Jesus said His words spoken to us are spirit and life, He was referring to His Word that is quickened to our spirits. The Greek word for this is rhema. It describes something that is spoken clearly and vividly, in unmistakable terms and in undeniable language, straight into our spirits by the Spirit of God. There are some things that our minds will never be able to perceive. However, when the truth of God’s Word is revealed to our hearts by the Holy Spirit, even though we've read it many times before, we suddenly understand it. As if a light has been switched on and we see something for the first time, although it was there all along. This type of understanding, or revelation, produces faith and life.
