What do we do with the disappointments and heartaches that seem to cling to us and weigh us down, preventing us from moving forward in life? According to Jesus, we must drop them off of ourselves and leave them behind. The only way to do this is by forgiveness. Forgiving someone is not really an option if we want to live free from bitterness. In fact, Jesus clearly describes it as being a basic requirement for every believer. In the parable He tells in Matthew 18, he likens even the smallest act of unforgiveness, to wickedness. Isn't it funny how it's always the small, petty resentments that seem to cling to us, perhaps because we think they are too insignificant to deal with. But they aren't, they are as deadly to our well being as the larger offences. If we refuse to deal with them, they will become a root of bitterness that produces misery and heart ache, not only in our own lives, but in the lives of everyone who spends time with us. Go before the Holy Spirit today, ask Him to reveal any unforgiveness you may be harbouring in your heart. Then repent and release it by speaking out forgiveness. It's time to leave that wickedness alone and move on in the freedom God has for you.
